3 hacks to a mess-free painting party

Whether you're having an at-home painting party for adults or for kids, you want to make sure that your party is as mess-free as possible. Many people assume that because acrylic paint is water-based, it's washable. But that's just not the case! Acrylic paint dries into a hard plastic that is nearly impossible to remove from fabric furniture and a challenge to remove from clothes.

So how can we protect your home and your guests from the mess? It's not as challenging as you might think! Let's cover three hacks to make sure that you get all the creative fun and none of the mess during your painting party.

HACK #1: COVER YOUR TABLES

Covering your tables is a must! You can use a plastic tablecloth, fabric tablecloth, a roll of paper, or newspaper. Keep in mind that if you use a fabric tablecloth, you very likely won't be able to get the paint out of it, so those are best to use only if you plan to use them only for other painting parties in the future. Being able to roll up your table covering and toss it in the trash at the end of the party makes clean up a breeze!

Using easels for your canvases is another way to reduce mess. It won't prevent spills completely, but it'll keep the majority of the paint on the canvas, rather than on the table.

HACK #2: PROVIDE YOUR GUESTS WITH APRONS

If your painting party is for kids, aprons are an absolute necessity. If you're painting with adults, they will still appreciate their clothes being protected from the paint. Acrylic paint will come off of hands easily, but clothes are a completely different story. Let's prevent the stress of trying to get paint out of clothes!

We prefer using disposable plastic aprons, because they are easy to toss in the trash at the end of the party. They also don't have to be washed in between parties in order to be sanitary. That said, there are some adorable, customizable options for fabric aprons on Etsy that can make your party feel extra special!

If one of your guests still somehow manages to get paint on their clothes, the best thing to do is rinse it out with soap and water while it's still wet. HACK #3: KEEP WIPES HANDY

Acrylic paint is always easiest to remove from hands and surfaces when it's still wet. When it's dry, it requires special products and some major elbow grease to remove, but when it's wet, a simple wipe will do! Keep a couple of packs close by, so spills or drips can be dealt with as they happen.

Baby wipes are recommended, because unlike other types that contain harsh cleaning products, they are nontoxic and can be used on your guests as well as on your furniture.
