Jennifer Baker is the owner and director of the Sketching Pad. She has been painting since she was a child and was inspired to teach art professionally by Kathy Ash, who instructed her for ten years. Jennifer has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She came to the Sketching Pad in 2011 and has absolutely loved every moment of sharing her passion for art with the community. Jennifer is a 2014 Leadership Rockdale graduate, on the Promotions Committee for the Conyers Mainstreet Program, and a proud member of the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. She is proficient in nearly all drawing and painting media, but watercolor and oil are her favorites. Jennifer regularly does commissions for architectural renderings, portraits, and more. She absolutely loves creating art, sharing art with others, helping the community to grow!
Andrew Baker is co-owner and and an instructor here at the Sketching Pad. He has been an artist since he was a small child and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design. He is also a math teacher in Rockdale County and is highly passionate about helping young people learn, grow, and become successful, fulfilled adults. His specialties here at the Sketching Pad include drawing in graphite, charcoal, and pastels, and he is also our resident Minecraft expert!
Orrin Morris is the founder of the Sketching Pad and one of the instructors! In addition to founding the Sketching Pad, he was also a founder of the Conyers Rockdale Council for the Arts, and he has been a respected and well appreciated artist in this community for decades. He has so much to offer the students of the Sketching Pad. Orrin specializes in portraits and wildflowers, and his media of choice are pencil, colored pencil, scratchboard, and pen and ink. Both his artwork and his writing are featured in the Rockdale Citizen regularly, and he is often asked to speak at churches, civic organizations, and clubs throughout the community. He is one of the leaders at Trinity Baptist Church, and he loves showing people their tremendous potential in all areas of life!
Laura Woodall is an instructor at the Sketching Pad that focuses on illustration. She is a former student of Orrin Morris and assisted him through high school. She is a graduate of Portfolio Center, a highly acclaimed commercial art school in Atlanta, and has a Graduate Studies certificate in illustration and design. She has achieved multiple awards including 3 Gold and 2 Silver Awards for illustration in quarterly competitions and her art has been accepted into the 52nd Illustration West Competition - Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. She has been trained in a multitude of different styles and media including cartooning, comics, visual story telling, patterning, logo design, pen and ink, acrylics, watercolors and much more. She has had the pleasure of studying under Gary Albright (former art director of Cartoon Network), and Brian Stelfreeze (former DC comic artist for Batman and original designer of Nightwing) who have been major inspirations in her artistic journey. The art of storytelling has become her passion and illustration is her stage. She loves helping others explore their own creative potential and in doing so invites them to step into their own story that is uniquely their own.
Maria Ramosis an instructor at The Sketching Pad. She received her undergraduate training at the College of Charleston, SC and majored in fabric design and minored in drawing and painting at the University of Georgia. In 2010, Maria created Ramos Design Studio and regularly sells works at Juried festivals and local businesses. She is passionate about keeping traditional artisan techniques alive that have been lost to mechanical processing. In 2013 she began teaching emotionally and physically disabled students. Through art form and freedom of creating, her students can express themselves without limits or stigmas. She teaches the tools of techniques while helping the individual to achieve life goals. She has received various awards through her career: Peri (screen print) published in Threads magazine, Emerging Artist award at Piccolo Spoleto and 1st & 3rd place for a painting & fabric design awarded by GAMI at the Ga State Capital.
Jill Adamsis an instructor for painting parties and fills in for class instructors when needed. Jill has been with The Sketching Pad for 12 years and has been Orrin's assistant for many of them. She has been helping for several years with Art Smart Camp, Window Painting, And has done many murals. She went to North Ga Technical College studying commercial photography. Orrin Morris and Jennifer Baker have been very inspirational to her, and they have always encouraged her in her artwork and instructions of classes.
Allison Chaffinis the Administration Intern At The Sketching Pad. She has been dancing for 10 years, and loves to play guitar. She loves makeup, and wants to be a theatrical makeup artist.
Bonnie Brown is an Administrative Intern. She is a wife and mom of two boys, an Administrative Assistant to the pastor of her church, and a worship leader with her husband. She came to The Sketching Pad for the first time for a TARDIS painting party (her first attempt at acrylic painting) and loved it! After several other painting parties, and an oil painting class, she applied for an Internship.
Zieda Hickson is an intern that goes to the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. She is a self taught painter and loves nothing more than the feeling of a brush in her hand. Although She is not entirely sure of her career goals, she is looking forward to a future at Pratt Institute. She is confident that she will one day share wow the world with her art and her vision.
Miranda Rice is an intern that attends the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. She has had a love of art ever since she was a kid and has ambitions to become a character modeler. She wants to major in game design with a minor in animation at her top choice school, SCAD.
Jade McPike is an intern from the Rockdale Magnet School. She has always loved making art and being creative throughout her life. Her hobbies include tennis, swimming, and photography. After high school, she plans to major in Industrial Design in college.
Najifa Hossain is an intern from the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. She was impressed by the local business dynamic The Sketching Pad had after volunteering for a spring art camp, and knew from then that it was the right place to apply to. She loves reading, writing, and being involved in the community, and she's looking forward to pursuing a career in global health policy.
